What is an English Muffin Pizza?
An English Muffin Pizza is a delicious snack that is reminiscent of the pizza bagels from the 90s! They’re essentially English muffin halves used as the pizza base topped off with your favorite pizza toppings for an incredibly wholesome family meal.
It’s not only easy to prep but makes for a delicious quick meal that kids and adults both love alike!
If there’s a dish that’s versatile, then this one is it! You can customize it according to your preferences so the ultimate English Muffin Pizza!
Involve Your Kids When Making English Muffin Pizza
These English Muffin Mini Pepperoni Pizzas are a great project for the kiddos. It takes just a few basic ingredients, but the little ones love making them.
They feel like they cooked their own pizza! And it's so much fun seeing them enjoy spending time together in the kitchen to create something that they will adore eating afterward.
Also, using homemade pizza sauce makes these mini pizzas taste more homemade and so good. We usually serve these pizzas with any kind of soup or veggies on the side with ranch.
Kids are growing up way too fast, but we still do these kinds of activities fairly often in our family.
Prepping meals as a team the kids treasure moments like that very much. The littlest ones especially like to be involved and these little pizzas are one of their favorites to make and eat.
Previously, I've used organic flatbread (that I purchase from Costco) mini pizzas, but they are a bit too big in size for the kids to handle and finish eating.
So, the English muffins make the perfect and fun food to use for this. As well as offering the perfect serving size.
This activity is great to keep kids occupied after school, and they get used to helping out with dinner while mom is making instant pot soup to go along with the pizza.
What Should I Do If My English Muffin Pizzas Keep Getting Soggy?
Following my recipe will give you the most delicious English Muffin Pizzas ever, but if you feel they're getting soggy there's a simple trick to prevent that!
To keep English muffin pizzas from getting soggy, toast the muffin halves before putting sauce and cheese on them. This avoids a soggy English muffin crust by preventing it from absorbing too much moisture from the sauce.
What You Need to Make English Muffin Pizza at Home
Making these delicious English Muffin Pizzas at home is the easiest thing ever! Here’s what you’ll need to make them:
English Muffins: This is the star ingredient for the recipe, and will serve as the perfect pizza base! You can pick from a bunch of different kinds from your local grocery store including plain, whole wheat, sourdough, or low-carb versions.
Homemade pizza sauce: This delicious 4-ingredient makes the perfect Ragu pizza sauce alternative. You can also use any other pizza sauce you love best! Look for the variations section in this post for other sauce ideas.
Mozzarella Cheese: Mozzarella is the perfect cheese to use for your mini pizzas! It’ll make the pizza cheesy and allow the toppings to stay perfectly on your muffin base!
Pepperoni: I’ve used mini pepperoni slices as the main ingredient for my English Muffin Pizzas. Feel free to add any other toppings you love best or check out the ideas I have in the variations section below.
Garlic powder: This will take your English Muffin Pizza to the next level. It’s my secret trick, and I highly recommend you give it a try!
Fresh parsley: Garnish your delicious English Muffin Pizzas with some fresh parsley for a touch of fresh herbs.
How to Make English Muffin Pizza (Step-by-Step)
Making these English Muffin Pizzas requires only a few simple steps. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
How to Assemble English Muffin Pizzas
First things first, separate each English muffin in halves. Spread about a tablespoon of pizza sauce over each muffin half. We love using our homemade pizza sauce recipe! It's tasty and easy to make, with clean ingredients.
Next, shred the mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle it over the sauce of all muffins. And last but not least, top them with the desired number of mini pepperonis. It’s usually about 5 pieces per pizza.
Finally, sprinkle a little garlic powder. This is totally optional but adds more flavor. Lastly, garnish with some fresh parsley.
How to Bake English Muffin Pizzas
Bake the mini pizzas at 350 F (180 C) for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges are light golden brown.
Once baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for about 10 minutes or so before serving.
A fair warning, cooling these little gems properly for safe consumption for the kids is necessary. Even though the cheese and the muffin may feel warm to the touch the sauce inside may still be very hot. Check before little ones take a bite.
Your delicious English Muffin Pizzas are ready to be served! Enjoy them with soup, Caesar salad, or simply a platter of vegetables and ranch!
English Muffin Pizza Topping Variation Ideas
English Muffin Pizzas are the ideal dinner to make if you have a bunch of picky eaters that all want to have something different. They’re small enough to vary the toppings and make everyone happy at the same time!
You can top it off with your favorite pizza toppings by varying the sauce, meat, cheese, and veggies. Here are some variations you can try:
Try different cheeses: Instead of mozzarella, you can use any other cheese you like including cheddar cheese, feta, parmesan, pepper jack, etc.
Use a different sauce: My homemade pizza sauce is the most delicious thing you can ever put on a pizza! But you can use any other sauce you like best. Go for a tomato sauce such as a classic marinara sauce or change things up by using pesto or a garlic-based sauce instead.
Meat variation ideas: I’ve used mini pepperoni slices in this recipe, but you can go for sausages, ham, bacon, bbq chicken, salami, etc.
Other veggies you can try: There’s so much that goes well on these English Muffin Pizzas! Try some peppers, mushrooms, red onions, pineapple, bell peppers, olives, garlic, artichokes, zucchini, or whatever you love best! You can also add fresh herbs to garnish such as basil leaves.
How to Store English Muffin Pizza
You can store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days before they get too mushy. Place them in an oven set to 350 degrees F for 5 to 10 minutes to reheat.
But that’s not all, you can also freeze them before or after baking! To freeze them before baking, place the pizzas on a baking sheet and place them in the freezer until they are frozen firm, which should take about one hour.
After that, store them in a Ziploc freezer bag for up to 3 months in the freezer. Simply follow the instructions on the recipe card when cooking after thawing them completely.
You can follow the same freezing instructions if freezing them after baking. To reheat cooked frozen English Muffin Pizzas, place them in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes, or until they’re warmed through.
