What is a Dessert Pizza?
Dessert pizza is a delicious dessert treat that had three primary components: a crust, ‘sauce’, and some toppings.
The crust can be in the form of regular pizza bread, or it can be taken to the next level with a cookie crust.
The sauce can be a simple frosting or more delicious and exciting flavors such as cream cheese.
The toppings can be just about anything you want, from some delicious fresh fruits to chocolate chips and anything in between.
Dessert pizzas are an incredibly delicious treat that’s not only easy to whip up but tastes great too! Kids seem to love it and also enjoy the process of making it so it can be a great kids’ activity for the summer.
What Makes This Dessert Pizza Recipe Special?
This dessert pizza recipe is by far the most delicious, versatile, and easiest one you’ll ever come across!
It uses simple ingredients for a delicious combination that can be adapted to just about anything you can dream of. My dessert pizza recipe features a cookie crust, with creamy and delicious cream cheese ‘sauce’ and fresh fruit toppings.
The fresh kiwi and strawberries go perfectly with the slightly tangy cream cheese to give the most delicious and refreshing dessert pizza ever.
It’s also a great way to get the kids to have more fruits and to get them to be part of the process of putting together what they want to have. The recipe is simple to follow and gives incredible results every single time!
What You Need to Make Dessert Pizza Recipe
You need the most simple ingredients to make the most delicious dessert pizza ever. Here’s everything you’ll need:
For the Crust:
- Sugar cookie dough: The most delicious dessert pizza is the one with a cookie crust. You can either go for a store-bought version or make a delicious one at home! I recommend Pillsbury Sugar Cookie dough if you plan on buying it, or you can check out my Homemade Sugar Cookie Dough recipe to make it at home. If you make it at home, you’ll get a better flavor that’ll also be healthier.
For the ‘Sauce’:
- Cream cheese: Adding cream cheese to your delicious dessert pizza cream sauce will give it a delicious slightly tangy flavor that will complement the toppings perfectly! Make sure to use softened cream cheese to get the perfect texture and consistency.
- Heavy whipping cream: This will give your dessert pizza ‘sauce’ the perfect level of creaminess that will make it taste even better!
- Confectioners sugar: You’ll need some confectioners’ sugar to sweeten the dessert pizza cream to the perfect level.
For the Toppings:
- Fresh fruits: You can use any fresh fruits you like. I recommend going for strawberries and kiwis for the perfect summer flavor that goes perfectly with our cream cheese ‘sauce’.
How to Make Dessert Pizza Recipe (Step-by-Step)
Making this delicious, classic dessert pizza is incredibly easy. Here’s what you need to do step by step:
How to Make Dessert Pizza Crust
Start by preheating your oven to 325 F or 160 C.
NOTE: If using store-bought cookie dough, a 16 oz. pack makes one pizza crust. If using homemade cookie dough, one batch makes 2 pizza crusts. These dessert pizzas were made using homemade sugar cookie dough, which makes 2 dessert pizzas.
Split your homemade sugar cookie dough into 2 equal pieces. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface, and then roll out into a circle.
Next, transfer the dough onto a greased pizza baking sheet. Roll out the pizza toward the edges of the pan and then shape the edges evenly with a spatula or a spoon.
Leave some space between the edges of the pizza and the pan; this gives extra room for the pizza dough to expand while baking. Otherwise, the pizza dough will be falling off over the pan and burn on the bottom of the oven and your kitchen will be full of smoke.
Repeat the same instructions with the second half of the dough.
How to Bake Dessert Pizza Crust
Time to bake our delicious dessert pizza crust! Bake the 2 pans in the oven at the same time at 325 F for 40-45 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
Remove the dessert pizza crust from the oven, let the crust cool for 5 minutes, and then slice the crust when it’s still warm.
We want to slice it while it’s still warm because a cooled crust will break and crumble while cutting into it. Once sliced, cool the crust completely before assembling.
How to Make Dessert Pizza ‘Sauce’ and Prep Toppings
While the pizza crust is baking, make the cream and prepare the fruit for the topping.
Let’s start with the toppings first. Peel and rinse the kiwis. Remove the stem of strawberries and rinse them too.
Slice the kiwis and strawberries, place them onto a paper towel for the excess juice to be absorbed, and set them aside until they’re ready to be used.
Let’s make the delicious dessert pizza sauce next!
Mix together softened cream cheese and powdered sugar well until it’s all combined.
Next, add cold heavy whipping cream to it. Scrape the sides of the mixer bowl and mix for 1 minute or until smooth. Repeat scraping the cream down the mixing bowl and mixing once more to ensure all ingredients are whipped well.
Refrigerate your dessert pizza ‘sauce’ until you’re ready to use it.
How to Assemble Dessert Pizza
Let’s put it all together for the most delicious dessert pizza ever! Drop the cream in small portions onto the crust to spread it more easily.
Spread the cream carefully and evenly using the back of a spoon or an offset spatula.
Top the sauce with sliced strawberries and kiwis.
If you like the crust to be crunchy you can serve it right away. We like our crust to be soft and moist.
For a more soft and moist crust, wrap your pizza with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for 6 to 8 hours. This will make the sauce slightly absorb into the crust and give you a delicious moist crust that tastes incredible!

Other Topping Ideas for Dessert Pizza Recipe
This recipe is the perfect base to customize your dessert pizza and make it however you want to! It’s incredibly easy and will taste delicious every single time.
Here are some other delicious topping ideas you can try:
Other fruits: I love the combination of strawberries and kiwis since they balance each other perfectly. But you can use whichever fruits you like the most. Go for a berry combination and add some raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries to the mix. Or you can also go for some other fruit combos such as strawberries, peaches, kiwi, and bananas.
Chocolate flavor: If you love chocolate, you’ll love this combo! Add some delicious chocolate chips to your dessert pizza and drizzle on some caramel sauce, peanut butter, or even Nutella on it. Sprinkle on some cinnamon powder to take it to the next level.
Garnish options: You can add some delicious rainbow sprinkles or even mini marshmallows to your dessert pizza to add some more flavor!
How to Store Dessert Pizza
This delicious fruit pizza tastes even better after storing it in the fridge for 6 to 8 hours after assembling it. It will give you a delicious, soft, and moist crust that will enhance the flavor of the dessert pizza even more.
You can store it otherwise in the fridge for up to 2 days, after which the fruits will start to get soggy, so I don’t recommend storing it past that.
I also don’t recommend freezing it since it will alter the texture of the fruits. In case you want to freeze it though, opt to freeze the homemade sugar cookie dough instead. I have all the instructions on how to do that and for how long in my Homemade Sugar Cookie Dough post.
