What are Apple Cinnamon Muffins?
Apple Cinnamon Muffins are the most delicious muffins with an apple cinnamon flavor to them. They're one of my favorite apple desserts, and they're incredibly easy to make too!
These apple cinnamon muffins are seriously a delicious treat that you can make at home. They’re easy to bake and they taste great!
The morning routine is busy enough without having to break out your baking equipment for some much-loved muffins.
Brighten up your breakfast by whipping up a batch of these autumn-flavored muffins the night before. Then, the next morning, simply reheat in a toaster oven for just for a few seconds and you're ready for a sugar buzz.
It is such a pleasant treat to have ready to enjoy with no work when you may be in a hurry in the morning. These muffins make great lunch box stuffers or simply to be enjoyed as a midday snack. I absolutely love homemade muffins, and certainly know that you will as well!
What are the Best Apples for Muffins?
You can use any of your favorite apple varieties in this recipe as long as the apples are firm and not mushy. Some common, easily available apple varieties would be Gala apples, Granny Smith apples, Braeburn, Pink Lady, or Honeycrisp.
All you need to make sure is that the apples are firm to the touch, which means they'll work beautifully in the recipe.
What to Need to Make Apple Cinnamon Muffins at Home
These delicious apple treats are easy to make and require simple ingredients. Here's everything you'll need:
For the Muffin Crumb Topping:
- All-purpose flour: First of all, to get that crumbly texture we'll need some simple all-purpose flour to mix with the rest of our ingredients.
- Sugar: Next we need some sugar to sweeten our crumb topping for the cinnamon apple muffins!
- Unsalted butter: To get the right consistency for the crumb, we'll be combining everything with unsalted butter.
- Cinnamon: Of course, we need some cinnamon flavor in our topping! We'll be using some ground cinnamon to add the perfect taste to our topping.
To Make Muffin Batter:
- All-purpose flour: We'll, first of all, need some all-purpose flour to build the base of our muffins so that they're perfectly crumbly and delicious!
- Almond flour: Adding almond flour will do so many good things in this recipe! Not only does it help add a delicious, subtly sweet flavor to the muffins, but also adds a little fat that adds moisture to our end product.
- Cinnamon: Of course, we need some cinnamon here too for our delicious apple cinnamon muffins!
- Baking powder: To make sure our muffins rise to the right level, we'll be using baking powder as our main leavening agent.
- Baking soda: We'll also need some baking soda since we'll be adding fruits to our muffins. It'll work with the baking powder to make sure our muffins turn out perfect every single time.
- Sea salt: To balance out all the flavors, we'll be adding a little bit of salt to our muffin batter.
- Eggs: We'll also need some eggs to not only add structure and flavor to the muffins but to also make sure they turn out nice and moist. There's nothing worse than a dry muffin, and don't worry that's not at all what you'll get by trying this recipe.
- Sugar: To sweeten our cake to the right level, we'll also be using some granulated white sugar in this recipe.
- Vanilla extract: Vanilla extract will bring out the flavor in our muffins and balance everything so that you end up with the tastiest apple cinnamon muffins ever!
- Apple sauce: Applesauce not only adds a delicious flavor to the muffins but is also a great alternative for butter or vegetable oil in baking muffins! So it'll give you a moist crumb that's to die for!
- Bananas: Apples and bananas go incredibly well together, especially with a little cinnamon added into the mix! So we'll also be adding some bananas to our muffins to naturally flavor and sweeten them.
- Apples: Of course, we can't have Apple Cinnamon Muffins without some apples! I've used small Gala apples for this recipe.
- Muffin liners: We'll also need some muffin liners to line our muffin tins!
For Muffin Glaze:
- Milk: For the perfect consistency and flavor, we'll be using whole milk to make our cinnamon vanilla muffin glaze.
- Powdered sugar: To sweeten our glaze, we'll be using powdered sugar instead of regular, granulated sugar. It'll give you the perfect texture and consistency.
- Cinnamon: Of course, we need some extra cinnamon in these muffins! Our glaze will have the most delicious, subtle cinnamon flavor that you'll absolutely love.
- Vanilla extract: We'll also be adding some vanilla extract to our muffin glaze for the perfect cinnamon-vanilla glaze!
How to Make Apple Cinnamon Muffins (Step-by-Step)
Making these delicious, mouth-watering Apple Cinnamon Muffins is simpler than you think. Here's what you need to do to make them at home:
How to Make Muffin Crumb
Let's make our muffin crumb topping first! To do that, combine all-purpose flour, sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a small glass bowl. Mix well with a fork to make the crumbs. Set aside until ready for use.
How to Make Muffin Batter
Time to make the batter! Start by preheating the oven to 325 F (163 C) in a conventional setting (or otherwise, preheat to 350 F(180 C).
Measure out the dry ingredients and sift them through a sifter and into a large bowl. Combine them together with a wire whisk. Set aside until ready for use.
Next, rinse, peel, and grate apples using a carrot greater. With a chopping knife, chop the grated apple slivers into even smaller pieces.
Then mash the bananas using a fork (or hand mixer) and add to the grated apples. Stir to combine and set aside until ready for use.
Next, beat eggs and sugar in a medium bowl for a few minutes or until fluffy and pale in color. Then add vanilla, apple sauce, and the banana-apple mixture. Mix well to combine.
Stir in the flour using a spatula (or a hand mixer) in 3 separate additions until just incorporated.
How to Bake Apple Cinnamon Muffins
Time to bake our delicious muffins! Divide the batter evenly between 12 jumbo or 18 regular liners in a muffin pan. Sprinkle cinnamon crumbs over the top of each muffin batter.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove baked muffins from the oven and let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes before taking them out. Then remove them from the muffin liners and let them cool for an additional 5 minutes. While they are cooling, prepare the cinnamon vanilla glaze.
How to Make Muffin Glaze
To make the glaze, combine milk, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla in a small bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat well. Starting at low speed mix the glaze, gradually increasing the speed as you go.
Drizzle the warm muffins with the delicious glaze. Allow the glaze to dry and stiffen a bit first, and serve warm!
Your delicious Apple Cinnamon Muffins are ready to be served!
How to Store Leftover Apple Cinnamon Muffins
If you have any leftover muffins left, you can store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to three days.
You can also freeze these delicious treats! But make sure to do that before you add any glaze to them. Simply cover them in plastic wrap and pop them in the freezer. Let them thaw in the fridge overnight or warm them in the oven or microwave when you're ready to have them.
