What are Pepperoni Pizza Rolls?
Pepperoni pizza rolls are a type of pizza roll that is made with pepperoni, cheese, and other toppings. They can be served as appetizers or snacks. The rolls are usually baked in the oven to make them crispy on the outside and soft inside.
Pizza rolls are not just for kids! These tasty treats are great for parties and events because they are easy to eat and transport.
These delicious rolls are made from my famous Homemade Pizza Dough, which I've been making since before I was married.
It's so good, you'll never want to buy store-bought again. The dough comes together quickly and only needs 30 minutes of proofing after it's mixed. You can use your favorite pizza toppings, but I love using pepperoni.
Pizza rolls are often filled with different types of meat, vegetables, cheeses, sauces, and spices. Some people like to add olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and tomatoes.
Some loads of other ideas, you can check out the section down below for ideas on what to add to your pizza rolls!
What Makes This Pepperoni Pizza Roll Recipe Special
This recipe uses homemade dough instead of store-bought. Homemade dough gives the best texture and taste.
The homemade dough tastes better and has less fat than store-bought. Plus, you get to control all of the ingredients used in making the pizza roll.
There are many ways to customize this recipe. For instance, you could use any toppings you prefer. Or, if you want to add some extra flavor, you could sprinkle some Italian seasoning on top.
You can even go all out and stuff the rolls with sausage instead of pepperoni. Just remember to cook the sausages before stuffing the rolls.
These Pepperoni Pizza Rolls are perfect for parties. Everyone loves them! And, they're super easy to make.
They're also quick to put together. All you need to do is mix the ingredients, let them rise, and bake them. That's it!
Just one little piece of advice, though, if you make them to freeze: make sure you label them clearly if you also freeze cinnamon rolls for quick & handy meals on the go. Or you may end up with a nice pizza roll with your morning coffee...otherwise, yum, yum!
Pizza rolls will be a new staple in your home. From lunch boxes to easy and lazy dinners or even game day parties, these savory bites make for a great snack or a meal. So, let's get started!
What Other Pizza Toppings Should You Use?
Feel free to experiment with whatever topping you choose. As long as it fits inside the dough, you should be fine.
Other Sauces to Try in These Pizza Rolls
There are tons of sauces you can use in place of the marinara sauce. Some of my favorites include marinara sauce, pesto, barbecue sauce, butter garlic sauce, and ranch dressing.
For a special touch, you can drizzle some melted butter on top. Butter adds a nice richness to the dish.
What You Need to Make Pepperoni Pizza Rolls at Home
The ingredients for these pizza rolls are pretty basic. Chances are you already have most of these items in your pantry and fridge.
- Pizza sauce: Pizza sauce adds flavor and moisture to the dough. It also helps keep the rolls from drying out too quickly. You can use any pizza sauce you like the most, such as a store-bought one or even marinara sauce with a little garlic powder. I prefer making my own Homemade Pizza Sauce.
- Pepperoni: Definitely can't make pepperoni pizza rolls without some pepperoni! I've used turkey pepperoni slices here, but feel free to choose whichever one you like best.
- Mozzarella cheese: In terms of cheese, I'm using shredded mozzarella cheese since it goes well with just about any topping. But feel free to use any other cheese you like, such as parmesan cheese.
- Fresh parsley: We'll be using some fresh parsley to garnish our pepperoni pizza rolls.
- Pizza dough: You may use store-bought, of course, but I encourage you to try making Homemade Pizza Dough from scratch. Your pizza will taste so much better.

How to Make Pepperoni Pizza Rolls (Step-by-Step)
Making some pepperoni pizza rolls is easy! Here's what you'll need to do step by step:
How to Add Toppings to Pizza Rolls
These pizza rolls are surprisingly super simple to put together. If you've made cinnamon rolls before, it's basically the same process.
Split all the dough in half for easier rolling. Roll out the first piece of the dough into a rectangle roughly about ¼ inch in thickness.
Spread out homemade pizza sauce evenly throughout the dough. Sprinkle grated mozzarella cheese, top the cheese with turkey pepperoni and sprinkle additional cheese over the pepperoni (this way the rolls will stick better and hold their shape).
Note: Reserve one cup of grated mozzarella cheese to sprinkle over top of the pizza rolls after they are baked.
Start rolling the dough from one end into a tight log. Seal the end by pinching the dough together.
Using a super sharp knife slice the pizza dough log into equal rolls, placing them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
This step is optional but to me, it makes a huge difference in taste. Melt 2 oz. of butter and squeeze garlic juice from one large garlic clove into the hot butter. Then brush each roll with garlic butter.
Let the rolls rise for 30 minutes before baking. 15 minutes into the rising time you may start preheating your oven to 350 F (180 C).
How Long to Bake Pepperoni Pizza Rolls
If you have leftover garlic butter, brush it once more before placing the rolls into the oven.
Bake pizza rolls in preheated oven to 350 F (180 C) for 25 - 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Remove baked pizza rolls from the oven, and sprinkle the earlier reserved cup of grated mozzarella cheese and freshly chopped parsley.
Cool the rolls for 10 to 15 minutes before serving them with some extra pizza dipping sauce.
Tips for Making the Best Pepperoni Pizza Rolls Ever
- Don't overstuff the dough. You'll have to roll these up pretty tightly, so overstuffing will make it harder to roll up and the dough may become thin and tear.
- Make sure the dough is rolled out to about ¼ inch thick. It may seem too thin when you portion it into rolls, but you need to keep in mind that the dough will also expand a bit during rising and baking.
How to Store Leftover Pepperoni Pizza Rolls
Store any leftovers in airtight containers or freezer bags in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and kept frozen for up to three months.
