What You Need to Make Peppermint Oreos at Home

All you need are three simple ingredients to make these delicious Peppermint Oreos. Let’s look at what these are:

    • Oreo cookies: We’ll be needing these family-favorite cookies as the base for our recipe since we’ll be coating them with the other ingredients. They add a beautiful rich cocoa flavor to the final product!
    • White chocolate melt: You’ll also need some white chocolate melt to get that delicious white chocolate coating that we’ll cover our Oreos with.
    • Candy cane: We’ll also be using some crushed candy canes for that delicious peppermint flavor that’s going to bring everything together perfectly!

How to Make Peppermint Oreo (Step-by-Step)

Making these delicious Peppermint Oreos couldn’t get any easier! Here’s what you need to do step by step:

Start by melting the chocolate melts. You can either do it with the double boiler technique or in the microwave.

For the double boiler method, you’ll need a heat-safe bowl and a pot of boiling water. Add the chocolate melts to the bowl and place it over the pot of boiling water and keep stirring till the chocolate melts completely.

For the microwave method, you’ll need a microwave-safe bowl. Place the chocolate melts inside the bowl, and pop it into the microwave for 15-second increments, stir in between until they’re completely melted. (You may add a teaspoon of coconut oil to white chocolate for the chocolate coating to be a little softer, optional).

Next, dip an Oreo into the white chocolate and shake it gently from side to side to remove excess chocolate.

Then place it on a silicone mat, parchment paper, or wax paper. Sprinkle the top of the dipped oreo with crushed peppermint.

Repeat the same step with the rest of the Oreos. Let the white chocolate harden before removing the cookies from the mat.

To speed up the hardening process, place the Chocolate Peppermint Oreo Cookies into the fridge for 5 to 10 minutes.

Recipe Variation Ideas for Peppermint Oreos

These Peppermint Oreos are absolute classics and taste incredible. But if you’re looking to customize the flavor according to your preference, here are a few ideas to try:

Chocolate chips: You can also use some crushed dark chocolate chips and sprinkle them on top along with the crushed candy canes.

Peppermint oil: For an extra peppermint flavor, you can add a few drops of it to the melted chocolate. Make sure to get good quality extract otherwise you’ll get an artificial flavor.

Cocoa powder: You can also lightly dust some cocoa powder on top of the cookies and then add the crushed candy canes!

These peppermint delights are so easy to make that you can involve your kids in the process too! Not only will they have the best time ever, but it’s going to make them enjoy the cookies even more.

How to Store Leftover Peppermint Oreos

These cookies always disappear within minutes in our household, but if you’re lucky enough to have some leftovers, you can easily store them in an airtight cookie jar for up to 7 days.

I won’t recommend freezing them since it’ll alter the texture of the Oreo cookies.
