How to Make Homemade Egg Rolls (Step-by-Step)
Making these incredible homemade egg rolls is easier than you think. Here's how to make them at home step by step:
How to Cook the Meat
Heat a medium skillet over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef to the skillet and cook it until it starts to brown.
Once the meat is browned, reduce the heat to medium and season it with salt, pepper, Mrs. Dash, Vegeta, and garlic powder (optional).
Cook the seasoned meat for 5 minutes, stirring it every minute to guarantee even cooking. Once the meat is cooked, remove it from the skillet and set it aside to cool.
How to Cook the Pasta
In a small saucepan, bring half a pot of water to a boil.
While waiting for the water to boil, break the pasta into 1-inch length pieces.
Once the water is boiling, add the pasta and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Cook the pasta for 10 minutes, stirring it every 1-2 minutes to prevent sticking. After the pasta is cooked, drain it, rinse it with cold water, and set it aside to cool.
How to Prep the Veggies
Now, prepare the vegetables by washing and shredding the cabbage head.
Next, prepare to heat a large frying pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and fry it for 15 minutes, stirring it every minute to prevent burning.
Remove the fried cabbage from the skillet and set it aside to cool.
Now, peel and shred the carrots. Then add them to a medium skillet with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Fry the carrots for 5-7 minutes, stirring them every 1-2 minutes.
Once all the ingredients are cooled, add them to a large bowl and mix them together.
How to Assemble Homemade Egg Rolls
To assemble the egg rolls, place an egg roll wrapper on a small cutting board and spoon 3 tablespoons of the mixture onto it. Fold and roll the wrapper into an egg roll shape.
Now, heat a medium skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Place egg rolls in a single layer on the preheated skillet. Keep in mind that you should fry the egg rolls for 3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
Let them cool for a few minutes on a wire rack before serving.
Enjoy your delicious homemade egg rolls!
Tips for Making the Best Homemade Egg Rolls Ever
Prep work is key: Before you start cooking, make sure to have all your ingredients prepped and ready to go.
Use medium heat: When cooking the egg rolls, make sure to heat the oil to a medium temperature. This will give the egg rolls a crispy exterior and prevent them from becoming soggy.
Try other types of oil: You can even try using different flavored oils to fry your egg rolls such as sesame oil or peanut oil.
Don’t overfill: When filling the egg roll wrappers, make sure not to overfill them. Too much filling can cause the wrappers to tear and make it difficult to roll them up properly.
Seal the edges: After filling the egg roll wrappers, make sure to seal the edges tightly. Use a bit of water or beaten egg to help seal the wrappers and prevent the filling from leaking out while frying.
Fry in small batches: When frying the egg rolls, it is best to fry them in small batches. This allows for better heat distribution and makes sure that they cook evenly.
Drain on paper towels: After frying the egg rolls, place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off any excess oil. This will help keep them crispy and prevent them from becoming greasy.
Serve immediately: Egg rolls are best served immediately after frying. They can quickly become soggy if left to sit for too long, so make sure to serve them right away for the best texture and flavor.

Where do you buy these all natural egg rolls wrappers?

Do you have a suggestion on what seasoning I can use instead of Vegeta? (Trying to avoid MSG and I know they have MSG free Vegeta but I don't have any on hand)
valya'stasteofhome.com says
Use a little more of Mrs. Dash seasoning, it's very similar to Vegeta.
Olga says
Hi Valya,
If I were to freeze them, should I fry them first or freeze them raw? and reheat by frying?
valya'stasteofhome.com says
If you freeze them raw, they will stick together while thawing. Lightly fry them, cool completely before freezing. Then you can reheat them in the oven frozen. I hope that helps. Thank you for your comment. 🙂

Can I use Tortilla Land, Uncooked Tortillas instead of the egg roll wrap?
valya'stasteofhome.com says
I've never tried making it with uncooked tortilla. If tortilla will not be cracking or brackig during folding then it's ok to use it. The taste will be different of course, but I'm sure it will be delicious too. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.
Victoria says
Today I tried making these Egg Rolls. I made half with beef & the other half I tried to make with chicken. Both taste very good, but with beef it tastes even better! I used the Egg Roll Wrap (I bought 2 packs at Whole Foods store), & it fits in perfectly! I also tried using the Tortilla Land, Uncooked Tortillas - the taste is a bit different, but still tastes good too. If you want the best, original taste, stick with the Egg Roll Wraps & ground beef meat. Also, another tip: when frying the cabbage, I sprinkled it a little with salt & sugar - it added SO mUchiha flavor, it was so good that I could even eat it just like that! Also, I fried the onions first, that way they become more soft. Season the onions with a little bit of salt & sugar. When they start turning golden, add the carrots. Overall, VERY AMAZING dish. I would give it a 5 star review. Husband & family approved!!! Thank you, @Valya'sTasteOfHome!!!

Its more like american style crepes. Its not sweet. I only use it for egg rolls. I have the Maxim crepe maker and i found this recipe in the book that came along with the crepe maker. The recipe says to combine all ingredients in blender but i dont have blender so i use hand mixer.
: 1 batch makes 15 crepes. I usually do 4 batches together.
Ingredients
1/2 cup milk
1 cup water
2 eggs
2 tbsp. Melted butter
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 cup flour..
Combine all this ingredients in blender or do by hand mixer.
Try it and i bet u will see huge difference. Everytime i make them, people love it so much and get the recipe. Of course this way it takes more time but so much more delicious

Hi Valentina! I wanted to provide feedback but was too busy during Holidays.-). I made two batches to make sure I knew how to make these for Christmas since I was expecting kolyadniki. By Christmas I felt like I was a pro at making these. When my carolers came they ate of of these.lol. I really like your step by step instructions. I really like the cabbage in these and this kind of wrapper is the best one by far. One time I ran out of wrappers and went to Freddys.they only had one kind so I ended up using what they had, but they didn't taste as good as when I used the wrappers you suggested.
Very delicious and easy to make. This is a great appetizer!
thank you again. God's blessings to you and your family.

I'm sure you told your carolers where you got the recipe from. I am happy to hear that you are a pro at making them! They are my hubby's favorite. I love this brand of wrap the best. Thanks Lena! 🙂

What can I use instead of vegata?
valya'stasteofhome.com says
You can use Mrs Dash. It has a little different flavor though, but it is a very similar seasoning. I used Mrs Dash for https://www.valyastasteofhome.com/pork-bone-lion-chops-stakes. You can get VEGETA at any Russian/Ukrainian stores, in most bigger cities in US.
