Parmesan Crusted Chicken is a delicious chicken dinner meal that is made with chicken breasts and coated in a breadcrumb mixture. It's then either pan-fried or baked till it's perfectly crisp.
Although we usually assume this dish to be Italian, it's actually an all-American meal that originated here in the United States.
It's a popular meal that's loved by many, but most people don't know just how easy it is to make at home. With my post here, you're going to know exactly how to make the tastiest parmesan-crusted chicken ever!

For a recipe that requires simple ingredients you most likely already have on hand, it sure makes for a lip-smacking good meal that's also low-carb!
Most bustling households full of kiddos like mine, probably have a stockpile of frozen chicken on hand as it is a much-loved meat dish by many.
With some good chicken breast, this meal will come together quickly for your family to enjoy. It goes fantastically with mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice. Simple but yet a flavorful dinner!

What to Need to Make Parmesan Crusted Chicken at Home
As I said, you only need some simple ingredients to make this incredibly mid-week chicken dinner! Here's everything you'll need to make Parmesan Crusted Chicken at home:
- Chicken: Of course, we'll first need some chicken to make our delicious dish. We'll be using some boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe.
- Parmesan cheese: Next, we'll need our other star ingredient which is parmesan cheese! Get the best quality you can find for the best flavor.
- Mayonnaise: To make our marinade creamy, we'll be using some mayonnaise in our recipe. I've used homemade mayonnaise but you can also opt for a store-bought one if you have it in your pantry already.
- Seasonings: We'll also need some sea salt and black pepper to perfectly season our parmesan-crusted chicken.
- Garlic cloves: Garlic goes so well in this dish! We'll be using some chopped garlic cloves to add some garlic goodness to our dish!
- Italian bread crumbs: To coat our chicken and give it that perfect crust, we'll be using some breadcrumbs. I've used homemade Italian bread crumbs but you can also use store-bought variety including the super popular panko bread crumbs.
How to Make Parmesan Crusted Chicken (Step-by-Step)
This is the perfect recipe to try on a busy night because it's just so easy to make! Here's what you need to do to make it step by step:
How to Prep Chicken Breasts
Let's start by prepping our chicken first!
Trim the fat off each chicken breast, then cut slashes over the top of the chicken breasts, about ½ inch wide and deep.
Rinse chicken, and place in a strainer to drain. For a quicker process, you may dry them by patting each chicken breast with a paper towel.
How to Marinate and Crust Chicken
Let's make our marinade and crust the chicken!
Add all the ingredients, namely salt, pepper, pressed or grated fresh garlic, freshly grated Parmesan cheese, and mayonnaise into a bowl. Combine all ingredients together and glaze all chicken breasts well.
Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or as far in advance as you can). About 12 hours is a decent time for good flavor absorption, but the longer the marinating time, the softest, juicier, and tender the chicken will become.
Preheat the oven to 425 F. Pour some Italian bread crumbs on a large plate or a shallow bowl. Dip the chicken in the breadcrumbs to coat and dredge it on each side, and then dust off the excess.
Next, lay them out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
How to Bake Parmesan Crusted Chicken
Bake the chicken breasts for 30 to 40 minutes depending on your oven and the thickness of the chicken breast, or until golden brown.
For a more certain readiness measurement, you may also insert a thermometer into the thickest part of the breast. Baking is complete at 165˚F (74˚C).
Remove from the oven. Cover the entire baking sheet with foil or place another baking sheet over the baked chicken and allow the chicken to rest and further moisten for about 15 minutes.
Your delicious Parmesan Crusted Chicken is ready to be served!
What Can I Serve with Parmesan Crusted Chicken?
You can serve your delicious, juicy Parmesan Crusted Chicken with mashed potatoes, buckwheat (our family preference), rice, pasta, or just simply over Caesar Salad, Cabbage and Cucumber Salad (more of our family's preferences), or any other salad of your choice.
Recipe Variation Ideas for Parmesan Crusted Chicken
This recipe for this delicious dinner meal is absolutely perfect as it is, but if you're looking to change things up here are some good options:
Garlic powder: Want to make your Parmesan Crusted Chicken extra garlicky? Then try adding some garlic powder into the mixture before marinating the chicken in it.
Fresh herbs: You can also add some fresh herbs like fresh parsley, rosemary, or thyme.
Spices: If you like any other spices or seasonings, feel free to add them in too! A little bit of Italian seasoning will go pretty well in this dish!
How to Store Leftover Parmesan Crusted Chicken
If you have any Parmesan Crusted Chicken leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I don't recommend freezing them as the texture will change and it won't be as crisp and delicious. Since it's a super easy recipe, I recommend making and serving it fresh!

Is this recipe different from the original? I think I remember garlic salt? Can you post the original if so? Thanks!
Valya of Valya's Taste of Home says
No, it's not different from the original. Garlic salt has chemical additives. Instead, I used garden-grown garlic cloves, fresh parsley, and more sea salt compared to the original recipe. The taste is the same with clean ingredients. I hope this helps.
