What is Butternut Squash?
Butternut squash is a delicious winter squash that has a nutty, pumpkin-esque flavor that makes it absolutely perfect for fall!
Squashes are high in fiber, so they can help you stay full for a long time. Plus, they're really good for you too, and its high in nutrients and vitamins, including Vitamins A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, potassium, and even magnesium.
It's also low in calories but is a hearty dish that will satisfy your fall food cravings! It also pairs really well with chicken or other types of meat.
Butternut squash is generally a great lower-carb option for potatoes! Apples and pumpkins get all the attention in the Fall, but this is the perfect season to make this delicious dish and to experience the perfect fall crop!
Why Try This Butternut Squash Recipe?
Growing up, butternut squash was not a common food that appeared on our table, so I was not accustomed to it. I didn't want to try it for a while but decided to taste what the pear-looking melon fuss was all about.
After I tried this roasted version of it, I fell in love with it. Its pumpkiny, nutty flavor is perfect for a Thanksgiving meal. That is why I'd like to share this recipe with you all.
People find that it's tricky and intimidating to peel and cut butternut squash, but personally, I find it super easy and entertaining. A new (edible) toy for a cook!
I don't think it's worth spending the extra money to buy them precut when you can do it yourself in a much cleaner way. It's always good to develop your own technique and touch when it comes to handling new food to you.
Butternut squash is very nutritious and tasty. Another fall staple and a must-have at your Thanksgiving gathering. It's a beautiful and deep color that matches the season to decorate your table, and it's a delicious, smooth taste and texture.
Roasted butternut squash is also a great addition to salads, pureed for homemade soup, casserole, bread, muffins, or just eaten plain as a snack. If you don't already make it, I hope it becomes another comfort food flavor of the season for you.

How to Make Butternut Squash (Step-by-Step)
This is an incredibly easy recipe that you can make in the simplest of steps. Here's what you need to do to make roasted butternut squash at home:
Start by preheating the oven to 400 F (200 C). Rinse the squash and dry it with a paper towel.
Peel and remove the seeds. The easiest way to peel your butternut squash is to use a vegetable peeler.

Next, sprinkle with seasoning: sea salt, Mrs. Dash seasoning, and black ground pepper. Drizzle olive oil over seasoned squash and toss to coat.
Arrange squash on a baking sheet lined with a baking mat (preferred to prevent the squash from drying out), and roast in the preheated oven to 400 F (200 C) for 20 minutes or until squash is tender and lightly browned.

Recipe Variation Ideas for Butternut Squash
This recipe is absolutely perfect and gives you an easy butternut squash that tastes incredible! But if you're looking to customize it, here are some great ideas to try:
Spices: You can spice things up and change the flavor by adding some different spices to the butternut squash before popping it in the oven. Some great options include thyme, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
Protein: This delicious side is absolutely perfect as it is, but you can make it more filling by adding your favorite protein to it or serving it alongside it. Some roasted chicken works really well, and you can even chop and add some bacon to it.
Sweet: Butternut squash already has a light sweetness to it, but you can enhance that by adding some brown sugar or maple syrup or even a little cinnamon to the squash before roasting it in the oven.
How to Store Leftover Butternut Squash
If you have any leftovers, you can easily store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I won't recommend freezing this dish as the texture and flavor will be entirely altered.
When it's time to have your leftovers, just reheat them in the oven for 15 minutes at 400 F.
