Is Your Drinking Water Safe?

April 12, 2019 By Valya of Valya's Taste of Home 6 Comments

This is not a typical recipe post you guys. Being educated about the water we drink is just as important as knowing about the food we consume, how it grows and where it comes from.

Have you ever questioned yourself what kind of water you drink? I know we often don’t think about it. We are so used to turning on the tap, filling a glass of water and drinking it, right? Some purchase bottled water while others filter their water, but which way is the safest?

Have you ever questioned yourself what kind of water you drink? I know we often don’t think about it. We are so used to turning on the tap, filling a glass of water and drinking it, right? Some purchase bottled water while others filter their water, but which way is the safest?

Another question we might often have is how much water do I need to drink? Our body consists…

of 50 % water and we need to drink enough to stay healthy.

How much water do you need to drink a day?

It all depends on your weight, physical activity, lifestyle, health condition, etc… There are so much to consider, and I would recommend talking to your physician or dietitian about it.

The amount of water I usually drink is calculating one ounce per pound of my body weight and that is plenty for me, personally. I do not include milk or coffee in that amount with an exception of tea.

More questions come up if you try to think deeply about the water subject. From what source is the water safest? From the well or public? Is drinking ice cold water or body temperature water best?  Who thinks or cares about these questions, especially when you’re dying of thirst, right?

Boiled and Warm Drinking Water is Best!

You may be shocked to hear the answer, but it’s true. I have done so much research and actually experienced and tested on myself that BOILING BODY TEMPERATURE WATER is THE BEST for your body!

Drinking warm water flushes the toxins and fat deposits (helps weight loss), speeds up digestion, improves blood circulation and easier on your teeth just to name a few. It’s like taking a warm bath!

Have you ever questioned yourself what kind of water you drink? I know we often don’t think about it. We are so used to turning on the tap, filling a glass of water and drinking it, right? Some purchase bottled water while others filter their water, but which way is the safest?

Why drink boiled water, you may ask? Boiling water is the safest way of ensuring it is sterile and safe to drink, no matter what source it comes from your own well or public water.

Intense heat during the boiling process is capable of inactivating spores, viruses, bacteria or other pathogens and evaporate chlorine, fluoride which can be living or present in the water.

Is Filtered Water Safe to Drink?

But my water gets undergoes ultrafiltration, you may say and it’s safe to drink. Filtration does not destroy the spores, viruses, bacteria, chlorine, fluoride, etc…, but physically retains 99% of it. Ultrafiltration is suitable to remove solid material which is present in the water like fine sand, silt, dirt, slime, clay, etc…

With all this said, you may have an additional question. Does boiling water kill minerals? My answer is, NO. Water does not lose nor decrease the number of minerals in the water.

If you keep boiling water in the pot for a longer period of time, you will see the minerals stay and the water evaporate, which looks like a white deposit of minerals in the pot.

So, after reading about the difference between boiled and ultra-filtrated water, you would probably come to the conclusion that boiled water is much safer to drink, right? I’m with you!

Boiled Water versus Filtered Water

Let’s talk about how boiling water is not only safe for you but also very healthy as well! So much sickness does not only come from processed food but contaminated water.

Chlorine, fluoride, just to name a few, are very harsh to your intestine system, which negatively impact the gut microbiome (I mean we all, no choice here, depending on a vast army of microbes to stay alive; we need microbiome in our intestines that protects us against germs, breaks down food to release energy and produce vitamins).

Well, why do we use chlorine or fluoride? To protect us from germs, right? The “GOOD GERMS” that typically living in our intestines gets DESTROYED too! So, why do we get sick? Because we kill “GOOD BACTERIA” that fight for our health! Our immune system gets suppressed, because it loses the army of microbiome!

So, coming to conclusion is ultra-filtrated water safe for our body? NO! Boil that water!

Have you ever questioned yourself what kind of water you drink? I know we often don’t think about it. We are so used to turning on the tap, filling a glass of water and drinking it, right? Some purchase bottled water while others filter their water, but which way is the safest?

The younger generation may not notice the difference in which water they drink. But as you get older or especially have a physical illness you shouldn’t be drinking tap or bottled water.

I am a very healthy person with no health conditions, thank God, considering my age and the number of children I had. But we all get sick, right?

I’ll say a little testimony about myself. During late fall and spring, I would get the cold or flu. With that, I usually get a sinus infection and a bad cough that lasts for a month or even longer. As I got older I started not tolerating weather changes from fall to winter and winter to spring. Winter season did not bother me though.

Studying about our human body function in nursing school and learning and researching about food and water I decided to boil our filtered drinking water.

We live in an area where we have community water. Our water tastes really good as is other than that every fall they treat it with chlorine. It is so strong during the month of October and November that you can literally sense it by having facet with running water on.

The problem that I faced is that I couldn’t stand the taste of boiled water. I decided to start adding a slice of fresh organic lemon to my jar of water. Guess what? I loved it! And love it to this day!

Ever since I started drinking filtered boiled water with lemon I never got sick. In fact, I feel stronger and healthier. The flu seasons or sudden (hot to cold) temperature change doesn’t affect me either anymore.

In the past, as soon as someone gets the flue or the cold in our family it never passes by me. It’s not the case anymore! I strongly believe drinking boiled with lemon water resolved that for me.

Another tip I would give is as soon as someone gets sick in the family I double the intake of oranges and grapefruits on top of boiled drinking water. Pushing Vitamin C helps fight the germs as well.

As always, keep safety in mind first! I have to give you this legal health disclaimer: changes to boiling water consumption your read in this post is my own personal decision. I am not a physician, registered dietitian or medical adviser and will not hold any responsibility surrounding your decision in this or any other life regime change.

Hi Valya, where do you store the water after it was boiled? I need some ideas, as I have a large family too and we go through water fast. Thank you for the post.

Either on the countertop or pantry and can be stored for 24 hours (plain, no lemon added).

      Consumption Instructions:
Drinking boiling water has to be a room temperature of about at least 70 F (21 C).
Add 16 oz. (475 ml) boiled and cooled water into your drinking cup, and then add a couple of slices of freshly sliced lemons.

I hope this clarifies a bit more for you Mary.

I was just wondering since fluoride is a mineral doesnt it stay in the water anyways after being boiled? I read alot that you cant remove fluoride from water by just simply boiling it. I agree it does kill toxins and living organisms in the water but cant not fluoride . And to remove chlorine u must boil for a while for 20min, than chlorine will be removed only.

You are absolutely right! This is why I mention in the post to filter the water and then boil. That results in pretty clean drinking water.
