The well-loved flaky puff pastry filled with a simple homemade apple-pie-like filling, and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar makes this treat taste just like the classic apple pie. Minus the hassle of pie making and baking.
In a small glass bowl combine all dry ingredients: organic sugar (or white granulated), organic light brown sugar, cinnamon, sea salt, and Xanthan gum. Stir all together to combine and set aside until ready for use.
Remove from heat and cool to warm before using. (While the apple filling is cooling down, it will cook a bit more in the heat, so don't worry if the filling looks slightly undercooked at that point.)
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown in color. Remove from the oven and cool to warm before serving.
Safety caution: even though the turnover may be warm to touch on the outside, the inside filling may still be very hot! Check the inside first before serving children.
Note: Turnover apple filling will almost always leak out a little here and there, no matter how well the edges are crimped. I use a spoon to push the filling back into the turnover where the filling leaked out from.
